Our very own Cherry and Vanessa took part in the games as volunteers, with Cherry working as an Ambassador and Vanessa being involved in the Opening Ceremony of the 2012 Games. They both relished the chance to do their bit for the home Olympics. Concorde even got a mention on ITV news when a picture of the Olympic Torch passing through Canterbury taken by our staff was featured on their website.
London 2012 has been positive for Great Britain with the public really supporting the Games and the Team GB athletes excelling all expectations by winning 29 gold medals in total – 10 more than at the Beijing Olympics.
The glittering Closing Ceremony last night brought the games to a memorable close with a mix of great British music and plenty of eccentric elements that could only be British. It brought the Games to a wonderful close and celebrated the end of a great two weeks of international sport.
It is hoped that the legacy of the games will be to inspire more young people to get involved in sport. The Olympic Games has also brought together the world for two weeks of celebration. Plenty of international students from Concorde International certainly enjoyed the Olympics.
It has been a great time for young people from all over the world to come over to the UK and learn English whilst also enjoying the Olympics. Our English courses always give students the chance to see what the UK has to offer as well as learning our language.
We had groups of English language students visiting the Olympic Park and enjoying the atmosphere at various sporting events. Our students waved their Union Jacks furiously and we even had our own Concorde International Olympic flag to take to the Games.
