Last Friday saw a fantastic fundraising event for BBC Children in Need held here at Concorde International Headquarters in Canterbury.
Concorde ran a cake stall for the long running BBC children’s charity. The cake baking was managed by family members of the Concorde staff, including Ken’s daughter Kirsty and Andrew’s wife Esther.
The charity cake stall raised a remarkable £66.73 in just half an hour! The cakes were served in the common room and included a range of internationally popular treats and favourites such as cup cakes, carrot cakes, Victoria sponge slices and chocolate brownie squares.
Concorde had explained to the English students that the event was to raise money for a children's charity and had put several logos and charity posters around the building.
However, many international students had already heard of BBC Children in Need and were keen to support it and of course try the tasty home-baked cakes!
Students were invited to come and sample the range of cakes during a break from their English language studies.
The students were amused by the BBC Children in Need poster of the famous Pudsey Bear, encouraging them to buy!
It was Concorde International’s first fund-raising event for BBC Children in Need and will be the first of many. Concorde offer support to many other charitable events and good causes throughout the year.
The money raised from the cake stall has been received by the charity and we are currently awaiting our fund-raising certificate which will be displayed with pride in the Concorde offices!
Andrew George, Manager of the Home Tuition Department, who organised the event enthused:
“We were thrilled by the student and staff support for the BBC Children in Need Cake sale! The generous funds have been sent to the BBC as the Concorde International contribution to the fund raising marathon. Thank you to all those who baked cakes – especially Esther and Kirsty - and of course to all of us who have enjoyed their scrumptious cakes! We’re going to do it again next year!”
