St Mary's School, Cambridge

Home to one of the world's greatest universities, Cambridge has a lively student culture. Many of the college buildings are architectural masterpieces, both ancient and modern. There are theatres, concert halls, music venues and cinemas in the city. Many of the chapel choirs sing evensong every day and also perform public concerts. The city has a wealth of bookshops, a fine museum, The Fitzwilliam, a number of art galleries, the best being Kettle's Yard.

Cambridge has an attractive pedestrianised city centre with many interesting, individual shops and a large mall all within 5 minutes walk of the school. A cup of coffee will cost about £2.00, a pint of beer about £2.80. The train station is very close which allows easy access in to London if you want to travel on your days off.

The school is a self-contained boarding school in the heart of Cambridge with the classrooms, the hall, dining hall and some bedrooms for some staff and the younger students all in one building. Extra accommodation for staff and older students is at Homerton College about 10 minutes walk from the School and at St. Chad’s College, about 25 minutes walk.

All residential staff have their own bedrooms. Most rooms have shared facilities. There are no cooking facilities in the bedrooms. At St. Chad’s there is a kitchen and common area for staff but three meals a day are provided in the school dining room and there is a coach each day to take staff and students to and from the school. There is a staff common room with internet access for relaxation and tea / coffee making facilities. Laundry facilities are all on site.

Teachers have their own preparation area with a wide range of up-to-date academic resources specifically designed for young learners and teenagers. Concorde International has invested heavily in its academic resources in the last couple of years to ensure both teachers and students receive the best possible quality of learning.

Activity staff have ample sports equipment, arts and crafts materials, microphones and amplifiers and other resources available to create the perfect activity programme.

Sports facilities

The Cambridge centre is not a sports centre as there are not many facilities on site, but it has an outdoor hard court for five-a-side football, basketball and volleyball, one tennis court and a large garden for socialising and BBQ’s. We use the famous local park, (Parker’s Piece), for larger sporting events and there is an excellent public swimming pool and gym in the city centre.
